Tricalcium Phosphate

Tricalcium phosphate (TCP) is the calcium salt of phosphoric acid with the chemical formula Ca3(PO4)2. Tricalcium phosphate is a white solid that has a low solubility in water. It is essential for many of the body’s natural functions, especially bone formation and maintenance, and is also used in orthopedic and dental implants. TCP is more porous than hydroxyapatite, thus giving it a faster resorbing rate, but is weaker in the compressive strength test. TCP is also found in two configurations, α-TCP and β-TCP. This material is also used to make inks and scaffolds suitable for bone tissue.
