Gelatin

Gelatin, as a hydrophilic protein heteropolymer, consists of amino acid sequences. Gelatin is produced by the hydrolysis of natural collagen found in the skin and bodies of mammals, aquatic animals and insects. Gelatin is one of the most complete, purest and most consumed colloidal protein substances in nature that is easily absorbed by the body. Non-toxicity, non-allergic protein and biocompatible nature of this polymer, ability to form fibers and also the existence of other unique properties of gelatin cause the widespread use of this polymer in the medical and pharmaceutical industries. Gelatin is soluble in hot water and becomes a hydrogel at low temperatures. Gelatin is one of the most widely used materials in the manufacture of inks used in bioprinters.
