Alginic Acid Sodium Salt

Sodium alginate is a linear polysaccharide derived from alginic acid that is normally obtained from the cell walls of brown algae and has a negative charge. Alginate helps support cell growth in vitro and in vivo, and has both flexibility and biocompatibility. Sodium alginate is used more than alginate alone, because acidic alginate is harmful to tissues and cells. Sodium alginate can be dissolved in both cold and hot water to produce a viscous solution.
